The Importance of Picking a Great Name For Your Business
Over the last 6 months I have been working with a number of new and small businesses and seeking to help them to get their new businesses off the ground. This of course has been a very testing year in business and whilst there have been many who have been forced to close their doors, there has also been a large number of people who have looked to seize the opportunity ad launch a new business. I was reminded last month of exactly why one of the most important things to consider when launching a new business is the name. I saw a hair salon which specialized in weaves, and it was called ‘Sew In’ a truly creative and brilliant name which is something we should all aspire to.
If you are launching your new business then here is exactly why a name really does count, no matter what Shakespeare may say about it.
There is no business on the planet which wants a customer to come in once and never again, in fact this is quite the opposite of what they are looking for. And so making sure that your business is memorable involves both a great business and great service, but also a great name which will be remembered. This is one of the first steps to making your business a memorable one.
Create the Mood
Occasionally there are products which are good enough to carry the business and therefore the name doesn’t really matter, in the main however, a name should really scream out what the business does and it should set a mood which customers can feel. Again if we go back to the example of ‘Sew In’ then we can see that this not only represents the fact that they stitch in hair, but also that it plays on the words ‘so in’ thus giving that fashionable and exciting feel to it. This is what you can expect when you get the name just right.
In the modern age, more than ever before, it is absolutely critical that you are able to create a brand around your business, no matter the size. The key is to gain loyal customers and customers who will always remember who you are and spread the word about who you are. This starts with the name and from there you will be able to launch your brand. Everything begins with the name of your business, from there branding is easy.
The best way to decide on a business name, when you are coming up with ideas, is to think about how that name is going to look on the side of a bag when someone has bought your products. Imagine them walking through the street, bag in hand, and consider how cool or uncool that name looks on the side of it, this is one of the best tests to discover whether or not you have a great name or a bad name.
